It's a LEAP year! February recap

We really haven't been to the pediatrician for awhile.  Like maybe a year?  I figured I probably should call and get Hayden's 4 yr well check, along with those dreaded kinder vaccinations!  I let her know that this doctor's trip would require a few pokes and she handled it like a champ.  She was more excited she got this cool shark ice pack to help with discomfort!

Blake finished up his basketball season with Heritage!  It wasn't easy but the team made dramatic improvements each time they played.  I'm proud of Blake's hustle and encouraging words to his teammates!

I picked the kids up from school and Preston mentioned his hands were red and itchy.  We were headed to the dentists office so when I brushed the kids' teeth real quick in the bathroom, I took a look and he had this rash all over his arms and trunk of his body!  I immediately assumed it was from the Amoxicillin he had been taking.
By the end of the day, it was looking pretty bad.  It spread everywhere, pretty much head to toe!  His ears were also bright red and swollen.  I tried rubbing his whole body down with lavender oil to see if that would soothe the itching but he was quite miserable.  We ended up leaving town last minute to drive to California before Brittney had her back surgery (see pic below) and left Preston in the care of Aunt Kristin.  He went to school the next morning but ended up coming home midday because he was dying of itchiness.  Benadryl was his friend until it cleared up several days later.  Guess there will be no more Amox for Preston!
We literally drove to California overnight to see Britt before her surgery.  Sometimes you do wild things for people you love.

School Valentine's for Gavin and Preston
Blake started taking clarinet lessons once a week to help him improve his playing
Time for our mother/daughter date to the Sleeping Beauty ballet~
Daddy always brings home Valentine's Day flowers for his little ladies!

Preston is so happy he's finally moving up in the {car seat} world!  Officially in a booster!
Hayden has been leaving us the sweetest notes in envelopes under our pillows!  This one is me & her inside a heart, with two smaller hearts below.  She sure loves coloring and is working so hard on writing her letters, all unprompted.  She's already a professional at H's!
Gavin's team played in the championship basketball game today.  Unfortunately they didn't win, but Gavin did make a basket!  Another great season with RISE basketball!
Lately I've been looking at her, realizing she is not a baby anymore.  I still carry her everywhere and she gets away with too much.  My heart is so full of love for this little girl!!
Blakester, my super awesome running buddy tonight!  He lit right up when I invited him along for a run.  He talked THE WHOLE THREE MILES and kept saying things like, "This feels so great!" and "Everything is so beautiful!"  It was nice to have him as company.
That's it!!  Last run before the big race!!!
Having lunch with Preston in the cafeteria after volunteering in his classroom
13. 1 D O N E !!!
She's so proud of herself!  She's been blowing bubbles all day!

President's Day day trip

Matt and I were trying to make plans for something to do on President's Day.  After tossing around a few ideas, we decided to spend the day in Tucson, which is just about 2 hrs south of us.  Matt made a quick call to find a hotel we could stay at Sunday night (Valentine's day, so romantic!) so we didn't have to get up crazy early or have driving time cut into our day.

We had heard good things about the Arizona-Sonoran Desert Museum and wanted to check it out.  We practically spent the entire day there!!

There is a little walk-in hummingbird aviary with all different types of hummingbirds just speeding around, all over the place!  Birds are such fascinating creatures!
We saw this guy, a roadrunner, making his way along the path
Everyone wanted to get in the turtle shell!
This beaver was a playful guy!
We ALL squeezed into a photo booth to take pictures!!
That was interesting but everyone's face is in the pictures!
Pretty cactus!  Brooklyn even noticed this heart-shaped prickly pear!

We watched the Birds of Prey show that they have.  These falcons, hawks and owls are trained and fly back and forth, right over your head!

Don't you think Blake & Gavin make pretty cute vultures??
(Mountain) Lions & Bears, oh my!
The kids filled up their "passport" with stamps of various desert animal tracks along the way.
This was such a cool place to visit!  I don't think I ever realized that there is SO much to do in Tucson and it isn't even that far away from us!

On our way home, we stopped by the Tucson temple site, which is under construction.  The temple was announced by President Monson during General Conference in October 2012.  Since Matt works in Tucson once a month or so, he has been taking pictures each time but it was fun for our whole family to see it.  Such excitement when you witness another temple in progress!  Makes me contemplate how much really goes into the selection of the site and the design of the temple.  The Tucson temple will be unique with a dome-style structure to fit in with the architecture of the Sonoran desert in which it rests.  At first glance, it looks like there is a cross on top of the temple, but that's actually the lightning rod fixture that the angel Moroni will sit atop. ;)
